About the book Casa Vicens

Designed as a summer residence, Casa Vicens of Barcelona was the first major commission that Antoni Gaudí undertook after completing his studies in 1878. Demonstrating his talent and cosntructive genius, the architect was capable of creating a completely original work, whose striking design anticipated the arrival of the Modernist movement.

Built between 1883 and 1885 in the town of Gràcia, then an independent municipality of Barcelona, Casa Vicens was designed under the influence of Oriental art, in which Gaudí had developed a great interest during his youth. Likewise, the exuberant decoration of the property includes numerous references to the world of nature, in a clear demonstration of the profound fascination that nature exercised over the architect.

This book on Casa Vicens published by Dosde reveals all the aspects related to this key work in Gaudí's career, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Its pages offer a complete analysis of the house's history, from the project's origins to the later refurbishment work, whilst showing off all the details of the different works within the building, converted into one of Barcelona's major architectural emblems.
